The jewel in the crown

The issue I had with the struts was that they didn’t project far enough. That is, the footprint wasn’t large enough for my liking.

So, it was a question of re-making the struts or, as I finally chose, to move them out just a little further. This was simple and quick to accomplish by drilling some more mounting holes.

One potential problem with this was the void that would be left in the middle where the struts once met. Thankfully, I already had an idea for this.

The idea was to fill this void with a jewel. This might sound strange but it fits in perfectly with the project's name which translates as 'bright one of the sword', the 'bright one' being, presumably, the jewel in the hilt. So a 50mm block of clear plexiglass was used to make a filler piece to be illuminated later on.
